ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Virginia is facing a shortage of dental hygienists that is stretching wait times for preventive care appointments, according to a new report from the Virginia Department of Health Professions’ Healthcare Workforce Data Center, analyzed by the Virginia Dental Association. Federal Health Resources and Services Administration projections rank Virginia second to last among states in meeting the demand for hygienists, at 66% adequacy.
